Indianapolis' original Union Station, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, was the first union train station in the United States. A newer station was built in 1888 to replace the structure and is still actively used; in 2002 one part of the station was converted to a 273-room Crowne Plaza Hotel. Hotel guests have the option of staying in one of 13 old Pullman Train cars which have been converted to rooms. The granite and brick Romanesque Revival property and the Grand Hall house works of art and feature stained-glass windows and vaulted ceilings. Situated beside the RCA Dome, the station is within walking distance of the Circle Center Mall.
