Indianapolis's Eagle Creek Park is one of the largest municipal parks in the United States, offering 3,900 acres of mature woods and meadows surrounding an expansive recreational reservoir. Visitors can partake in a multitude of land and water activities, including swimming, hiking, boating, fishing, birdwatching and picnicking. The park offers over 10 miles of hiking trails, a pistol and archery range, a marsh and bird sanctuary, as well as cross-country skiing paths and canoe and boat rentals. It is located just 12 miles northwest of downtown Indianapolis, near the Legendary Hills neighborhood.
Park grounds: Open daily Mon. - Sun. 7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.; Nature Center: Mon. - Sat. 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Sun. 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Gate admission: Bike/Hiker $5; Vehicles $5, $3 w/ car launch; Nature center $25.
