German architect Bruno Schmitz's only work outside of Europe, the Soldiers and Sailors Monument stands 284 feet, 6 inches high, less than 20 feet shorter than the Statue of Liberty. It is the centerpiece of Indianapolis' historic Monument Circle, and commemorates and honors those Indianans who died in a number of conflicts including the American Revolution and the U.S. Civil War. The monument is located on Monument Circle, just north of the Children's Museum and east of the RCA Dome.
